New VR Project Collaboration from Two Leading VR Developers in the Pipeline

Two of the UK’s most innovative VR developers, Coatsink and Fierce Kaiju,  have announced that they will be working together on a new project due to be released sometime in 2018. As yet there are no details available as to what the project is going to be but given the previous work from both developers, we are expecting something adventurous and new.

When asked about how the partnership formed, Coatsink Producer Sophie Smart said that is was a collaboration that they couldn’t pass up:

“We’ve known the guys at Fierce Kaiju for some time, we’ve both been working with VR since the launch of the Gear VR Innovator Edition and have always enjoyed discussing our projects and what is next for VR. Earlier this year, Fierce Kaiju came to us with a prototype for a new IP. As soon as we played it, we were hooked. It was really innovative and a great use of the virtual space. It was a very ambitious; we knew we wanted to collaborate straight away.”

Hailing from the Northeast, Coatsink are responsible for some of the most impressive games on Samsung Gear VR. Firstly, there is Augmented Empirea story-driven tactical cyberpunk RPG which is very much a look at classes within society and people striving to break the system. The team are also responsible for one of the most popular downloads on the system, A Night Sky, which is an incredibly relaxing VR experience in which all you are doing is making shapes in the night sky using stars as guidelines.

If you want to see just how much VR games can do then you need to check out the work of Leeds-based developers Fierce Kaiju. They have worked tirelessly on building imaginative VR experiences and pushing the boundaries of VR gaming. Their first title, Viral,  was released in 2015 on Samsung Gear VR and was then revamped for PC using Oculus Rift and HTC Vibe in 2017. Since then they have worked on expanding the Viral universe and have released Viral Quarantine.

The back catalogue from both developers makes for interesting VR experiences but what we want to know now is what kind of game the partnership is going to produce. While she couldn’t divulge any information about the game itself, Sophie did imply that it is going to be something very special.

“It’s a concept that simply couldn’t work without VR, and was built as a VR experience from day one. We hoping both casual users and hardcore VR enthusiasts will find something to love here, and we’re placing emphasis on both mechanical and spatial exploration.”
