Independent publisher, Ukuza, have recently signed French developers Macrales Studio to publish their quirky retro platformer Epic Loon. The studio, in conjunction with the creators of Astro Boy and Shenmue III, Shibuya Productions, has put together a 4-player couch co-op platformer that brings together some of the greatest cult films of all-time.
As you go through the game you will be taken through several familiar films but they don’t look the same as you remember them. At its heart, Epic Loon is one big parody. Drawing inspiration from film franchises such as Jurassic Park, Alien, and Gojira, you will be doing battle against aliens who have taken over a VHS player and are recking havoc through a couch potatoes VHS collection. The game consists of a story mode and a battle mode, as well as hardcore difficulty and speedruns. Check out the video below to give you an idea of what the game is about:
There is currently no exact date as to when Epic Loon will be released but we’ve been told that it will during the first quarter of 2018 and that it will be coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
First impressions of the game
We’ve only seen the videos and images online and we can safely say that this game really has the potential to be fantastic! There are many elements to the game that will appease different people — from those that like couch co-op games to those who love the feel of quirky black and white films and general movie buffs. The thought of all this combined into a physics platformer makes us very happy!
The idea behind the game is interesting and, once again, draws a lot of inspiration from cult classics. The trailer above hints to Gremlins, which is one of the greatest films ever made (in our opinion anyway)! The lack of bright colors in the animation just adds to the atmosphere of the game and makes you feel like you are inside an old black and white cult film.
We can see us getting together with some like-minded gamer with a few drinks and snacks and having a great time playing it!
